Product advice on steels to be used for:
Important specification
  • Seaming ability
  • Corrosion resistance
Recommendation

Sanitary ends are highly standardised products which can satisfy any market requiring irregular shapes or demanding retort conditions. Proper seaming of the ends onto the can bodies guarantees leak-proof packaging.

Pressure resistance and seaming ability are the most important factors when selecting a steel grade for this application. The pressure resistance of the ends comes from a combination of the steel’s thickness and hardness.

For rectangular or oval cans, the seaming operation defines the grade to be utilised. Grades with lower formability properties such as TS275 and TH415 are recommended.

Metallic coating: Tin coating or ECCS. ECCS can be used when the can’s contents are not aggressive.
